On November 24th 2011 Ravebo B.V. organized a seminar concerning exposure to artificial optical radiation in their facility in Brielle. A small, but very interested, group of occupational hygienists from The Netherlands and Belgium have attended this seminar. The seminar was mainly concentrated on the definitions of artificial optical radiation with several practical examples, the effects of exposure, possible actions for reducing the exposure and the risk assessments.
During the morning session, ms. Wendel Post from ArboUnie B.V. explained the risk assessment on exposure to artificial optical radiation. During her presentations many practical examples of working processes with exposure risks were explained. There was a good interaction with the participants concerning the assessment of the potential risks in these examples and the possible actions for reducing the exposure.
The morning session was closed with a short product presentation by mr. Stefan Eberlei from Ravebo B.V. on instrumentation for measuring the exposure to artificial optical radiation.
After lunch mr. Maurits de Ridder from FOD WASO Belgium explained very accurately the effects on humans as a result of exposure. It became very clear that it is important to provide employees who are exposed to artificial optical radiation with proper information of the possible risks. His colleague mr. Steven van Cauwenberghe ended the day with a clear and practical presentation of all steps in risk assesment. It became very clear that in fact there is still little attention concerning exposure to artificial optical radiation.
